Lock + Load
LOCK+LOAD walls use cantilevers to secure large areas with minimal space. These walls, which look similar to ecology block walls at first glance, are capable of supporting even large sensitive slopes with enough strength for roads and houses to sit safely on top of them. These panels come in many styles and colors to suit your design tastes, making them a flexible and incredibly secure solution to structural issues like slope creep.
Concrete Crib
Crib walls are another type of concrete retaining wall. Like ecology blocks, crib walls are made of interlocking cement blocks in a more open style. Combined with free-draining material, this style, known as open web construction, can address some potential concerns for other kinds of retaining walls, such as the buildup of hydrostatic pressure and root growth. Crib walls are also appealing from an aesthetic perspective, as they can be easily planted with flowers and other plants to give the retaining wall a natural feel that blends in with any landscape.
Ecology
Ecology blocks are large concrete blocks made from leftover concrete that might have once gone to waste. Built with interlocking in mind, ecology blocks fit together at the top and bottom to provide an additional level of security. Like many other forms of structural support, ecology blocks have a variety of applications. They are also suitable for both temporary and permanent structures, making them a versatile option for very large wall applications.
Gabion Basket
Gabion walls are another aesthetically pleasing option with great capabilities for drainage. These walls are comprised of metal baskets filled with rock, stone, or cobble, which are then closed and set in place. Keystone walls are a common solution to many structural needs, as well as a great method of decorating the property. This style of retaining wall is made with concrete blocks that are stacked together in various formations and held together with pins, gravity, geotextile fabric, and interlocking concrete hubs. Though the most basic keystone blocks are gray, they can be chosen in a variety of colors and styles to add beauty to your outdoor space. They’re also a cost-effective choice and have a lot of versatility, making them a great choice for any number of design and structural issues.
Rip Rap
Rip rap walls are used in areas that have drainage issues and sensitive slopes. This style of wall, also known by names like rip-rap, shot rock, and rubble walls, allow water to drain freely through the wall’s face. Built with three- or four-man rocks—referring to the weight of each rock, between 1200 and 2000 pounds—rip rap walls feature rocks stacked together and sloped backward by about six percent, holding soil in place with gravity. These natural rocks are also more aesthetically pleasing the typical concrete retaining wall block, giving rip rap walls a beautiful and organic look that works with any property.
